MSD has several topical steroids indicated for the treatment of eczema and other skin conditions:

Elocon®

Elocon, containing the active ingredient mometasone furoate, is a potent synthetic topical corticosteroid indicated for the treatment of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of:

  • Psoriasis15,16
  • Atopic eczema15
  • Seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp16

Clinical trials have shown that, with a single daily dose, Elocon produces more rapid relief of eczema17 and more effective relief of psoriasis18,19 than betamethasone valerate twice daily.

Elocon should not be used in children or on the face for more than 5 days.15,16

Elocon has a safety profile comparable to hydrocortisone20 and is available in a range of presentations to suit different types of lesion:

  • Elocon Cream: 30g and 100g tubes tubes15
  • Elocon Ointment for dry, lichenified or scaly areas: 30g and 100g tubes15
  • Elocon Lotion for psoriasis, eczema or dermatitis affecting the scalp: 30ml dropper bottles16

Diprosone®

For eczema and dermatitis: Diprosone contains betamethasone dipropionate, a potent topical fluorinated corticosteroid offering rapid remission of symptoms and sustained efficacy against all types of eczema and dermatitis.21,22,23

For psoriasis: Diprosone Cream and Ointment also treat certain forms of psoriasis including psoriasis of the scalp and hands and feet, but not widespread plaque psoriasis.21,22 Diprosone Lotion is available for the treatment of psoriasis of the scalp.23

Diprosone is available in a range of presentations to suit different types of lesion:

  • Diprosone Cream for moist or weeping lesions21
  • Diprosone Ointment for dry, lichenified or scaly areas22
  • Diprosone Lotion for eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis of the scalp23

Diprosalic®

Diprosalic contains a combination of betamethasone dipropionate, a potent topical fluorinated corticosteroid, and salicylic acid which, as a result of its descaling action, allows access to the dermis more rapidly than by applying steroids alone.24,25

Diprosalic brings the benefits of the rapid sustained response seen with Diprosone to the treatment of hyperkeratotic and dry corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, where the cornified epithelium may resist penetration of the steroid.24,25

Diprosalic is available either as Ointment or as Scalp application.
